On Thursday, April 13, USC’s Pan-African Student Association hosted their annual AfroSCentric Cultural Showcase. The showcase was the final event of their Africa Takeover Week.
From 7 to 9 PM, cultural acts from the African Diaspora shared their talents with the crowd. A few acts included Brazilian capoeira, spoken word poetry, Cuban salsa, and an afro-trap performance by the local Los Angeles duo, The.Wav. A crowd favorite was the fashion show that infused African and American style trends.
Joy Ofodu, a junior at USC, hosted the event. Throughout the night she made jokes to the crowd with references to her Nigerian background.
Not only did the night include amazing performances, PASA also provided delicious Ethiopian, Nigerian, and Jamaican food.
In only their second year as a recognized USC organization, PASA has already attracted members of the Trojan community to their events. I am looking forward to attending their annual Afro Ball in the fall.
